Even though the whole psychodrama about dreamy "Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert's ambiguous sexuality was mostly a false issue inflamed by an evil consortium of craven media outlets — because, really, who else cares if he's gay? — the husky singer did his part to further the speculation by not addressing the issue head-on.

That coy routine is apparently about to end. The New York Post is quoting a "well-placed source" at Rolling Stone magazine saying that Lambert is not only openly gay, but that he will be on next week's RS cover confirming as such.

"He didn't want it to be an issue during the contest, but he's fine with his sexuality," the Post said it was told. In the past, when asked about it, Lambert has only said, "Keep speculating." A rep for Rolling Stone said, "We don't comment on future covers." Lambert has steadfastly refused to talk about his sexuality despite photos of him on his Web site tongue-kissing men and dressed in full drag.

"Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi probably spoke for most observers when she said Friday on "The View," essentially, "Duh."

"I don't think that Adam was ever in" the closet, she told the talk ladies. "I think he was always openly out."

Neither Rolling Stone nor Lambert's rep confirmed the cover news when called by the Post.

In related news: Lambert says he has no hard feelings after "American Idol" Season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken bashed him, then apologized over a series

of blog posts last week. The comments were decidedly in the underminer category, however.

"I don't know Clay," Adam told Access Hollywood." "I'm glad he's getting headlines now though, because he wasn't before. ... If he wants to ride my coattails about it, good for him." Zing!
