Why Adam Lambert Should Win American Idol 8

Adam Lambert Sets The Gold Standard

I think it's hard for some to understand just how good Adam Lambert is. If you
aren't a singer, in the shower or otherwise, you may not understand the extent
of his prowess. It's like watching Olympic Diving. Sure we can all tell when one
of them makes a terrible dive, but can we really differentiate between the
silver and gold medal winner? Probably not.

In a skill-based competition, I would say that the rest of the singers probably
couldn't even make the "Olympic Singing Team" much less challenge Adam for the
gold. He's just that much better. Technically, no one else is in the room. Adam
is not great because he can belt a song, Allison Iraheta and Danny Gokey can do
that too - he's great because he controls every single note, loud, soft, or
screeching, low, mid-range or falsetto. He is also totally at home on the stage
and in front of an audience of any size. He's never faltered this season. He was
born to sing.

If you doubt this assessment, take yourself to your DVR or YouTube and try to
sing along with Adam, Kris, and Danny. Unless you're one heck of a singer
yourself you won't have a prayer of staying with Adam. Kris and Danny, however,
are not so far out of reach. Adam makes what he does look easy -but it's not. I
think the best testament to his skill was when Smokey Robinson gave him a
standing ovation. Smokey has worked with some of the best singers in the history
of popular music. Smokey was genuinely moved by Adam's work. He didn't stand for
anyone else.

I expect this horse race will come down to Adam Lambert and Kris Allen.

Allison Iraheta has the pipes, but I don't think she has really developed a
perceivable style and her choices seem very random - as good as she is, she
doesn't have the experience to command the stage like Danny Gokey and Adam
Lambert do. Unfortunately for him, Danny Gokey is fishing for the same voters as
Kris Allen, and let's face it, Kris is adorable. He's going to get a huge
portion of the female vote. He's a competent pop singer and he's beginning to
really show some style. I expect that no matter what happens he will transition
to a successful John Mayer-type career. He can sing adult contemporary songs and
I'll be happy to hear them on the radio. Adam however, can take on songs that
only people like Christina Aguilera, Barbara Streisand, or Josh Grobin, should
attempt. There's no limit to what he can contribute vocally and I know that no
matter what happens he will soar off into stardom of some kind.

I know that fans are passionate about their favorites, and I think the top five
are all great in their own ways, but they're not in the same caliber as Adam
Lambert. I haven't loved every one of his song choices, but there's no
reasonable argument to be made against his vocal capabilities.

Lastly, there's been some suggestion that Adam is not wholesome enough to win.
He does sport the guyliner and have an edgy approach, but he's also young. He
should get to experiment any way he wants. I think he actually could be a great
role model. Have you noticed what happens at judging? Adam gets praised
effusively, usually to overwhelming applause, and he stands quietly, thanks the
judges, and is always both grateful and humble. Someone taught that boy some
manners. What's not to like about that?
