| The GLAAD Media Awards took place on April 17, 2010 in Los Angeles, California with streaming video on the official GLAAD website. GLAAD posted updates via their official Twitter account throughout the ceremony for anyone not able to attend or watch in "real" time.
There was no shortage of entertainment as the 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards got underway at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. The celeb-flooded red carpet coverage included: Drew Barrymore, Chaz Bono, Nicole Paone, "The Real L Word" cast, "Grey Gardens" star Michael Sucsy, Elke Kennedy, Constance McMillen, Rebecca Gayheart, Eric Dane, RuPaul, Adam Lambert, Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes and other notable media personalities.
Inside the auditorium, Drew Barrymore received a standing ovation for her work while being honored with the Vanguard Award. She stated, "I'm humbled to be a member of the gay and lesbian community". Elke Kennedy also received a standing ovation. The cast of "Glee" was honored and Jane Lynch helped accept the award. Chaz Bono took the stage to what appeared to be an accepting and honored crowd. Constance McMillen presented the Stephen F. Kolpzak Award to Wanda Sykes following Tom Ford's "A Single Man" win in the Outstanding Film Wide Release category. "American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert performed and fans were not left disappointed! Overall, it was a fantastic evening to be gay. Los Angeles, April 17, 2010 – GLAAD Media Award recipients were announced in 4 of this year's 32 media categories at the 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards presented in Los Angeles by ABSOLUT® Vodka at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza on Saturday night. Additional awards will be presented in San Francisco on June 5. A complete press release will be posted by 2 PM PT and photos from the event by 5 PM PT on Sunday, April 18, 2010 at www.glaad.org/mediaawards. Following is a complete list of GLAAD Media Awards presented on stage, and the individuals that accepted the awards (accepters tentative): - Vanguard Award: Drew Barrymore (presented by openly lesbian star of Iron Chef America Cat Cora)
- Stephen F. Kolzak Award: Wanda Sykes (presented by Constance McMillen, the Mississippi teenager whose high school cancelled prom because she asked to attend with her girlfriend)
- Outstanding Film – Wide Release: A Single Man (The Weinstein Company) [Accepted by: Tom Ford]
- Outstanding Comedy Series: Glee (Fox) [Accepted by: Ryan Murphy, Jane Lynch, Chris Colfer, Dianna Agron, Jessalyn Gilsig, Kevin McHale, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley, Mark Salling, and Jenna Ushkowitz]
- Outstanding Reality Program: RuPaul's Drag Race (Logo/VH1) [Accepted by: RuPaul]
- Outstanding Spanish-Language TV Journalism Segment: "Polémicas Adopciones" Noticiero Telemundo (Telemundo) [Accepted by: Ramon Escobar, executive vice-president of news for Telemundo; reporter Carlos Botifoll and producer, Elisa Ross]
